Maine idyll built from one tree lumber

Ernest F. Marstaller, a lumberman, planned a cottage at Maine Idyll from a single old growth pine tree near Damariscotta. The tree yielded about 3 000 feet of clear lumber, including timbers and siding, and the cabin was finished with a front decoration spelling Maine from crooked limb pieces. The stump was moved to the camp as a curiosity after the tree was felled by girdling with a five-foot cross-cut saw.
