Lincoln County in Early Years of Maine Courts
History highlights Lincoln county's 1760 organization alongside Cumberland with Pownalboro as county seat. The old Pownalborough Court House, built 1761, served until 1794, then moved to Wiscasset Point, where the court has stood since. Notable figures linked to Pownalboro include William Cushing, James Otis, John Adams, the Sewalls, and John Gardiner, with a monument to Judge Sewall later restored.
