Former Bath Boy Drowns in Bristol Pennsylvania
Frederick MacPhail 37, a Bath native, died by drowning in Bristol, Pa. His body was recovered and funeral services were held by Buckledge of Moose. He was son of Malcolm McPhail of Seattle and leaves two brothers Donald and John and three sisters. He attended Bath schools and worked at Bath Iron Works and Hog Island shipyards. The death shocked his North End friends and family.

Flaherty Park Named for Bath Hero John J Flaherty
John James Flaherty the first Bath boy to die in the present conflict is honored with Flaherty Park in the new housing section of the naval board of the Department of Labor at Lincoln and Academy streets. A machinist aboard the torpedo boat destroyer Jacob Jones he perished when the ship was sunk by a German submarine on December 6 at age 26. He was the son of Margaret Flaherty of 23 Bath Street and a Morse High School graduate of 1908.

James Michael McKenna of Roxbury is reported killed in France. He was engaged to Bath resident Miss Maria Flaherty, who plans Red Cross training in Canada for four months before serving in France. McKenna sailed in August 1917 as a private later promoted to corporal with the 101st company from Boston. He leaves five sisters, including Mrs. Michael O'Brien, who shared his Roxbury home. Miss Flaherty departs for Haverhill to join others in Red Cross preparation.
