Cuban native Felix Stinson long linked with Arrowsic with sea career
Felix Urquiola Stinson, born in Matanzas Cuba to Spanish parents, became a Stinson family inmate in Arrowsic after godfather John F. Stinson brought him to Maine in 1863. He rose from North Arrowsic school to a long sea career, serving as mate on several ships including the Susquehanna. The Susquehanna sank in a gale near New Caledonia. Felix survived in a boat with eleven others and was later rescued in the Solomon Islands after a 90 day layover with traders in Gabuta and later reached Sydney and San Francisco.
