City government moves ahead with new city hall plan
At the recent city council meeting the city hall project dominated the agenda. The city will accept the Davenport lot and a gift from the Davenport estate, issue bonds of 1610000, transfer funds to the city hall building commission, and create a six year sinking fund. The commission aims to use Maine materials including a granite front and expand the upper story to the east. The city plans to sell Davenport and adjoining lots to reduce debt and may borrow up to 1700000 for taxes. Reports on blister rust control praised the city’s cooperation. New street lights were ordered and a water tank request referred to the licenses committee. Jurors for January were drawn.
