A 23 year old Bowdoinham woman confronted a crowd of local youths who taunted her at night. She drew a small revolver and warned she would walk the street unharmed, drawing praise from the town’s better class for her grit and self protection.
Maine horseman Fred A. F. Adams, born 1844 in Bangor, rose as a leading owner of fine driving horses. He recalls the Fearnaught pair and notable trades, plus seafaring ventures from Bowdoinham to Boston, driving dignitaries such as Grant and the Duke Alexis of Russia in historic parades.
Four dogs mauled six year old Richard Brown of Bowdham while passing on Main Street. American Express agent George Dunham intervened, dispersing the animals. Brown suffered multiple bite wounds cauterized at Dr. Saunders. Dogs were killed next day and town officials ordered owners to confine pets or face the law. The boy was reported improving next day.
Secretary Pringle of the Christian Civic League of Maine informs dealers that some souvenir post cards in their stocks violate the law. He says prosecutions will be avoided if dealers acknowledge disobedience, while dealers resent the intrusion viewing their cards as clean and lawful.
A Tuesday night gale drove high tides along the Maine coast with rough seas at Popham. Waves washed the beach and sidewalk to the cottage of A. A. Percy, but no property damage was reported. Probate court adjourns to next Tuesday.
