Miss Joan Edgett, Gorham State Teachers College freshman, resumes studies after holiday break and previously clerked at Newberry store.

Bath Fire Department Engine 2 rushed to the Winnegance district near Phippsburg around 2 am Saturday as a lively fire burned in a roof wood pile. The tanker’s 500 gallon capacity delivered over 300 gallons to douse the flames. Nearly two cords of wood were damaged, likely started by a discarded cigarette or match near leaves and dry grass.

Bath saw a peaceful New Year’s Eve with no arrests and only a minor hit and run on the blotter. No fires or accidents reported as local lounges stayed open late under the new law until two in the morning.
Mr and Mrs Edward B Hamblett of 23 Pratt street hosted an open house on New Year’s Eve to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. A blind man, Winfield Lewis, reports his sentimental scratched white walking cane was taken from the Salvation Army hall door Monday evening. He says the old cane is more useful to him than his newer one and hopes it will be returned.
