Governor Carl E. Milliken in his inaugural address urges a constitutional amendment to allow removal of sheriffs and county attorneys for failing to enforce the prohibitory law. He stresses punishment for willful officials and calls for stricter enforcement to curb liquor and gambling crimes.
The 78th Maine Legislature opened with both chambers organized in simple ceremonies. Senate: 28 Republicans and 3 Democrats. House: Speaker William L. Bonney of Bowdoinham. Executive Council members named include Frank B. Nichols of Bath and others. Ball, Simpson, Sturgis named top State officers. Bailey and Bonney to likely announce committee appointments next week. A. P. Denham conducted business in Boston.

William Fields sold his trucking business to Ott of this city. Mr Jewett, a three year driver with American Express Co, will run the new venture. Fields has run the business for over fifty years, succeeding his father William S Fields. He served Percy & Sons and had wide ties with traveling men and summer visitors.
The Bath Military and Naval Orphan Asylum Association held its annual meeting in the Common Council room with President William R. Kimball presiding. Trustees reelected by acclamation included Kimball Watson and Duncan. officers and committees were named and accepted with Eliza Brown reappointed matron and Dr. L. T. Snipe as house physician.
