Shipping Board composed of able men says Plummer
The Shipping Board, led by chairman William Denman of San Francisco, aims to build an American merchant marine through informed legislation. Members include Brent of New Orleans, Capt. White of Kansas City, and John A. MacDonald of New York, with Stevens from New Hampshire as the New England representative. The board first acted to prohibit selling ships abroad to prevent loss to neutral flags in war. The Bath Evening notices Hallett's serial The House of Craigenside in the Saturday Evening Post.
