Mrs Marion Anderson and her children Audrey and Billy Jr returned from Warren where they spent several days with Mrs Andersons sister Mrs Howard Norwood. The family also visited Boston for a few days during the trip.
That's That a diverting musical comedy scored a big hit at the Columbia theatre Thursday night with lively songs, many comedians, and a large ensemble. Kenneth Jones rescues Eloise Reswick while posing as a lifeguard, triggering romantic complications and comic side plots featuring Mickey Sullivan Mamie Rimer and others. Strong performances by Pettingill Marshall Kimball Shaw and a tuneful score kept the audience roaring and the production directed by Paul W. Pine.
The Winter Street Church parish supper and annual meeting drew the largest turnout in years. New moderator Dr Langdon T Snipe and clerk Dr Warren E Kershner were elected, with Miss Jennie G Silsby reappointed treasurer and other officers named. The pastor received a pay raise and committees reported on repairs, fund balances, and upcoming events including a playlet on February 20.
The Maine State Board of Bar Examiners reports only 11 of 40 candidates passed the bar exam in Bangor, the lowest pass rate in state history. Winners include Louis Bernstein and others from Bath and surrounding cities, with several candidates from Massachusetts.
Acting Secretary Ernest Lee Jahncke announced that Admiral Charles F. Hughes, Chief of Naval Operations, suffered a mild stroke and is ill. He designated to serve as chief of naval operations during Hughes's illness.
A Maine court interprets the will of L Theresa Moses who died in 1925, directing a $9,000 bequest to benefit Bath women via a trust modeled on Y M C A work, despite no Bath Y M C A chapter existing. Judge Glidden rules one quarter of the $9,000 goes to the Bath Y M C A to aid religious moral and social welfare of Bath women.
Genesta O E S members witnessed a grand installation at Masonic Temple with installing officer Mrs. Shaw and assistants. Officers-elect included Mabel Merrill and Jason Merrill, among others. audience exceeded 150 as music by Rev Frank Lamb accompanied the ceremony. A banquet followed with gifts to the installing officers and a chafing dish luncheon.
