Jones Koeatewain, longtime mate at Popham Research Coast Guard station, promoted to officer in charge at Wood Island. He left Friday to assume duties, native of Cape Elizabeth, formerly at Biddeford Pool before transfer, relieving Capt. Hahn.
Nomination papers for Clarence A. Peaske to serve on the Board of Education were filed Thursday morning at the city clerk's office, bearing upwards of 100 signatures.
Mrs. Sarah M. Beals testified at the Supreme Court in the Allard TaPlain alienation case and has now returned to Titch. The proceedings focus on the dispute between Allard and TaPlain over property and control.
The ways and bridges committee visited the Richmond bridge site on February 4 with Maj. S. C. Godfrey of Boston and other officials. The group discussed the proposed 1700 car per hour capacity and a $1.44 million combined railroad and highway bridge, hearing that War Department navigation concerns would largely not block the project. Maj. Godfrey could call a public hearing if authorized by the State.
Oxford plans the Imperial Forestry Institute to train higher level forest officers and conduct forest research. The institute, led by a Forestry Professor, will operate under a governors board chaired by Lord Clinton and serve the British Empire while admitting qualified international students. It will offer postgraduate training, research courses, and practical instruction via staff or other locations as needed.
Governor Brewster plans a Rotary club banquet at the YMA on Tuesday February 17 to address the American Legion merchants and Rotary members and their wives. A reception will follow with tickets available from the Rotary director Fred Hill at the National Bank.

Ralph W. Bragg and William S. Newell return from Moose Pond after several days without a catch. They blame an alibi involving gates lowered at the pond leaving the ice waterlogged, fish hidden beneath. A sleigh ride and snowmobile journey accompanied the trip. minnows vanished and were later returned. Newell has not issued a statement.

Ellen M. Galueia is sworn in as Dover city treasurer after a party line vote, becoming the first woman to head a city department. A Dedham Mass native, she moved to Dover four years ago after serving 14 years as assistant to the register of Norfolk County in her hometown.
George C. Wing Jr of Auburn and William H. Gulliver of Portland appeared before Justice Barnes to settle the defendant's bill of exceptions in the Central Maine General Hospital of Lewiston v estate of Col. Charles H. Osgood. The suit claims an oral promise of $20,000 for a new west wing. a 21,000 verdict already awarded. Osgood was a Lewiston leader with an estate around 350 000. The case will be argued at the June term in Portland.
Arrangements advance for the Pirate Den Cabaret to be held at Masonic hall on Feb 26 and 27 by the Masonic social organization. The dining room rests with the Genesta Sewing circle under Mrs Jason A Merrill with committees for first and second nights and a list of waitresses and organizers.
Richard H. T. Taylor of Hodges street Wiscasset aged 85 died February 4 at home from pneumonia. A longtime American Express agent and grocer he later ran a large fire insurance business. He was a Mason Odd Fellow and the oldest Wiscasset resident and fire society member. Survived by daughters Alice Taylor and Mrs. Mary Hubbard with funeral from his residence Saturday at 1 p.m.
Benjamin Gediman traveled to Tos ton for the funeral of his sister Mrs. Sarah Finberg who died February 4 at age 45. He was joined by brothers Harry Gediman of Los Angeles and Louis of Dorchester and sister Mrs. Lillian Lebewoh of Dorchester.
Kathleen McKay, a Presque Isle bookkeeper, and a guardrail crossing on the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad trestle led to a two hour delay as a freight train stalled. She escaped with only cold exposure to face and hands and no injuries.
