Extravagant Poor Relief Debated by Bath Overseers
Chairman Hall of the Bath Board of Overseers of the Poor described cases of abuse in public aid including a man with made to order clothing and an $8 vest, four gold watches bought with $1 down and 50 cents a week, and a Bath pensioner who shifted costs to the town.
