Commodore George B. Moody invites Kennebec Yacht Club members to a January 1 meeting in the common council room to decide the club s future after the war. The Texas Steamship Co. presently rents the clubhouse and the club will choose whether to terminate the lease, move, or continue there and how to raise revenues.
Mill Pond Ice Co reports Sunday ice at 71 inches thick and clear. Operations plan to begin cutting when thickness reaches about 11 inches.
Lieut Irving S Baker died from pneumonia following influenza at Camp Hancock. Born in Roxbury Mass he moved to Bath in childhood and excelled in athletics at Morsey High. He studied at Bates and Beacons street church. later worked in Bath before enlisting in 1916. He married Tilly Everson Nov 17 1917 and died at the base hospital with his wife at his side. He leaves his parents two brothers and a sister.
James C. Purinson of Topsham received an electric reading lamp Tuesday afternoon as thanks from Sagada county officials upon completing eight years as register of deeds. The gift, presented by William P. Dunaham of Richmond, came as a surprise. Purinson will be succeeded by Hiram T. Stevens of Bath, a Republican.
The old Jordan livery stable and its lot were recently purchased by Watson Frye Co Ta. A nine day vacate period was set at sale and after that the building will be torn down to make way for a new structure. It is noted as one of the town’s largest wooden buildings.
Influenza has reached Richmond with great force and more than 15 cases are suspected. The Board of Health orders a general closing of public gatherings and halts pool and billiard rooms. Stores and other shops may stay open and vendors may sell goods. loitering is prohibited and efforts are in place to prevent crowds.
Local notices recount influenza cases across Woolwich and nearby towns including Nativity of Webster's vacation from Bates College until Jan. 14 and routine calls by the pastor. Numerous mentions of travel, illness, and family visits mark a period of illness and community activity during the holidays.
Henry M Cunningham 67 died after a weeklong illness Tuesday. Funeral Thursday at his Woolwich home with Rev E Hil ton Post officiating. Burial in Riverside cemetery. Native of Edgecomb, he worked for Maine Central Railroad, Harvey P Hathorne, and Texas yard Bath. He was a Mason and survived by wife Annie, brother Clinton Cunningham Randolph, and sisters Mrs Thomas Dodge and Mrs T Lincoln Dodge Edgecomb. Doris Stetson hosted tea Thursday afternoon.
A letter from Mareuerite Bournet of Dombrot le sec Vosges France thanks Bath Maine based South End Parent Teacher Association and Mrs James E Lockery for adopting her seven year old daughter. She recounts four years of war, relief from American troops, her hospital work, and her gratitude to the brave American soldiers.
Corrigan Brothers move into the Lewis ton area for a large wood business with teams hauling cordwood to Lewiston. Joy Curtis veteran returns from Fort Williams after honorable discharge. Several local residents face illness flu death. Mildred Card dies of influenza at age 12 after lifelong health issues. Burial held at Woodlawn cemetery West Bowdoin. Influenza remains prevalent in the town.
Herbert Rice near Nequasset lake with his dog Pete began a rabbit hunt and shot two rabbits. Capt M O Wer ordered a ker re un with automatic ejector for trap and rabbit shooting. Arthur Thistle, rabbit hunting at Merrymeeting day, saw a red fox on the hill above Black Water Cove.
Mrs P A Cannon hosted a Tuesday evening gathering for guest Mrs Mary Hume of New Haven Conn with Mr and Mrs Robert Ferguson Miss Emily Rideout Miss Edith Fulton Grace Brann Bertha Hackett Karl Hatch Frank Hackett Charlie Berry and George Brann The social evening included games refreshments and a countdown to the new year plus remarks on Red Cross work and local war efforts.

Alfred William Perkins of Bangor, 40, attempted suicide at Brunswick Maine Central station as the afternoon express neared. He leaped onto the tracks, was dragged by the train, but rescuers freed him before the shifter stopped. He suffered bruises but no broken bones and stated he wished to end his life. He worked at Hotel Hallock in Bangor and had been visiting Boston.
The funeral for Mrs. Lewis H. Curtis took place Thursday at her Washington Street home with Rev. J True Crosby of Auburn officiating. Bearers were Henry Shaw, Ralph Dunton, John Haskell, and Fred A. Fuller. Burial followed in Oak Grove. William F. Mellen arranged the service. Louise Clark received a letter from her son Clarence Clark of the 48th C A C indicating he expects to return home in a few weeks. he serves as a cook in a camp of 350 men overseas.
The Sagadahoc delegation notes the selection of Leon F. Higgins of Penobscot as Senate President, praising his candidacy and long support. Included are seat drawings, notable local figures like Rupert H. Baxter, John H. Stacey, and Percival Baxter arriving early, with remarks on few Democrats in the chambers.
The funeral for Henry M Cunningham was held Thursday at his Woolwich home. Rev Samuel A Evans of People’s Baptist Church Bath officiated and bearers included Henry Carlton Clarence Carlton Fred Carlton and Charles Henderson.
