Bath Lions hear union business agent on shipyard workers
Paul F. Fitzpatrick, business agent for the Independent Brotherhood of Shipyard Workers, told Bath Lions the Bath Iron Works contract includes a wage scale, seniority provisions and a vacation plan. He noted most workers live locally, with 75 percent Bath residents in a prior survey and about 90 percent now, after recent layoffs. He urged bringing new industries to Bath to offset shipyard ups and downs and offered union support. The Lions also endorsed a full time school band director and admitted John S. Hazel and Percy R. Low as members. The club reported solid finances as of Dec 31 1949 and distributed broom hockey game tickets for a Rotary matchup.
