Red Cross Bath Chapter sets record attendance at annual meeting
Bath's Red Cross chapter gathered the largest group of members in years for its annual meeting held in Winter Street church rooms. A chicken pie supper preceded a program and reports on the year’s work. Mrs Russell Hitchcock spoke on the Philippines, sharing life, schooling, and customs there, and noting limited opportunities after schooling. A tribute to past nursing advisor Dr Langdon T. Snipe and to disaster chair John W. Osborn was paid. The nominating committee proposed officers and an executive committee for 1945, with by law provisions for a 20 to 30 member governing body.

Launch of USS Larson at Bath Iron Works Honors Devoted Marine
The USS Larson, named for Private Everett F. Larson, launched Sunday at Bath Iron Works with Mrs. Hilmer Larson christening the vessel. The ceremony drew officials from the yard and Navy, plus family, as the ship slides into Kennebec waters to join the nation’s fighting armada. Everett Larson, 22, earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart after dying in action at Guadalcanal on October 8, 1942.
