Pinnacle Rock Discovered In Kennebec River Near Hospital Point
A new pinnacle rock has been found in the Kennebec River off Hospital Point near Doubling Point. The rock, about 19 feet below low water, was grazed last month by the coal steamer Berwindglen while entering from Newport News. Plans call for drilling the rock using an air line from Bath, with a marked red buoy nearby. The Berwindglen recently discharged 6,600 tons of bituminous coal and is set to continue to Rumford and local wharves. Government engineers are reportedly planning a river sweep from Popham Beach to above Augusta with possible channel widening in places.
