Oats Variety Trials at Highmoor Farm Maine
At Highmoor Farm the Maine Agricultural Experiment Station tested 21 oat varieties across four plots each to measure grain and straw yields in varied soil and moisture conditions. Kherson led early types with 57.1 bushels per acre average. Banner, President, Prosperity, Victor, Lincoln and Copeland of Brewer showed strong yields in four year runs. The study notes tall straw, open heads, and differences in hulls and grain size, with ongoing tests planned through five seasons.
