Maine hatcheries prep sport for the anglers
The Maine game fish hatcheries expect over 15 million trout and salmon eggs to hatch this winter through stripping, boosting numbers for sport. Large shares come from native landlocked salmon and brook trout, with several million eggs for brown and rainbow trout and Chinook salmon. The state maintains miles of outdoor rearing pools and releases fish at six inches or larger after about ten months. In a spring check, 795 males and 509 females were noted among stripped fish. The piece also notes Colby College Christmas carol events and campus vacation closure.
