Nelson's Decision Boosts White In Maine 1930 Nomination Race
Representative John F. Nelson of Augusta will not seek the Republican sematorial nomination in the 1930 primaries. Nelson's withdrawal strengthens Wallace Ho White Jr. of Lewiston, whose candidacy benefits from the move as the senior Maine Congressman and ally of the party. White's background, including work for the American merchant marine and his grandfather Senator William P. Frye, is noted as aiding his bid. Despite Nelson's exit, multiple candidates are expected for the 1930 primaries with reallocation possibly reducing Maine's delegation to three candidates for three seats.
