Fire on Five Islands nearly wipes out building complex
Fire of mysterious origin on Malden Island in Noa resort near Georgetown destroyed a large building housing dining hall cookhouse and workshop. The Five Islands Fire Fighters, aided by volunteers, kept the blaze from three dozen nearby cottages and stored boats as a new portable pump operated at 180 pounds. About 75 fighters battled the blaze within 20 minutes of discovery, preserving cottages and a recreation hall.
