Committee plans for future programs were named with Marion Jaques Alice Coleman and Margaret Gallant among organizers.
The newly formed Community Council of the Girl Scouts held its first meeting at Mrs. R. W. Ferrell’s home. The council, sponsored by the North Center PTA of Bath, elected officers and planned four troops with meetings at the YMCA and Legion hall. Members named include Mrs. Robert W. Ferrell as chair and Mrs. Amber Carr and Miss Rachel Upham as troop leaders.
At the annual meeting and roll call of Winner Street church responses came by voice and letter. Charles C. Low was re elected church clerk and J Gertrude Silsby became treasurer to succeed the late Frederic H. Low. Langdon T Snive Joseph O Purdue elected Sunday school committee members. Eleanor P Insh elected Sunday school treasurer. Omar W Felsom and Frostina F Marston named standing committee members with Marston chairing absent mem bers. Fred J Higgins elected deacon to fill vacancy from Frederic H Low. A social followed in the downstairs rooms.
Free Will Workers of Corliss Street church held their annual Christmas garage sale at 737 Washington Street despite bad weather and reported a successful event. Volunteers managed candy, apron, and cooked food tables while families from Pine Street visit Portland on Sunday.
Miss Susan Cony Mellon of New York and Stephen Cakdwell Millett Jr of New York wed at the bride’s Small Point home with Rev Harrison Wright officiating. The gown was ivory satin with rose point trim, the veil tulle and orchids carried. Walter Damrosch played the wedding march as Chauncey D. Stillman stood as best man. attendees included Walter Damrosch and major New York figures. The couple planned a European wedding trip aboard the S S Bremen before returning to New York.
Current Events class notes show Bath will close schools from December 15, 1933 to January 22, 1934, forcing Morse High to drop to Class B and costing the next city government at least $4,000 in state credits and revenue. Debate over funding continues as South Bath and Woolwich consider sending students elsewhere to preserve credits. a fire destroys a rental home on Fitts Street, with $400 insured loss.
Three advanced students of Miss Thelma W. Dearing performed a refined recital at 688 Middle Street. Miss Margaret Gordon, Miss Marilyn Hatch, and Miss Esther Drummond presented challenging pieces with supportive violin by Miss Mary Goodwin, pleasing an appreciative audience.
About 30 pupils from Central Grammar sixth and seventh grades visited the home of Harold E Brown on Thursday to present a fruit shower as thanks for his teaching. The gifts were apples oranges grapefruit and grapes. The event followed his start at Morse High School that morning as math teacher replacing Errol Baker.
Miss Alice W Peabody and George Upson Scudder formerly of Bath were quietly married at the Peabody home in Brunswick on Thanksgiving afternoon at four. Rev George W Scudder performed the double ring ceremony with only family present. The couple will visit Mrs Scudder's parents in the winter. Mr Scudder is a Morse High School graduate. Madison Moore left Saturday for a business trip to New York.
Salvation Army set up red kettles in the business district to collect about 125 to 150 Christmas dinners for needy families. They expect higher demand and have already received $100 from the Davenport trustees. Funds will be raised by kettles and mail appeals only, no city canvassing. Kettles run two weeks until the Saturday before Christmas, with pre-Christmas notification urged. Separately at Skowhegan High School, no letterman eligible for next year’s football eleven, so captain elections postponed until the third game of 1934. captains will lead the early season games.
An elderly Phippsburg woman living in Bath appealed to Judge John J. Keegan on Saturday for help as she faced eviction over back rent. Bath officials had provided aid since 1933, despite Phippsburg’s wishes, and the woman learned groceries would be held until Monday for future care arrangements.

Bath Ser ie of Eagles opened their winter tournament with a dry win over the Wets by 640 in a night featuring pitch bridge and cribbage. Twenty six players took part and the losers will host a banquet for the victors at the club rooms. Frank Cochran captains the Drys with Albert Gallant leading the Wets.
Six dollars has been sent to the Independent for the annual Christmas Seal sale. Proceeds go to the Tuberculosis section of the Maine Public Health Association. Seals cost one cent each and are used on cards letters and packages. Sagadahoc county towns track each contribution.
Ted Arberty has returned after spending two weeks with relatives in New Jersey. He resumed daily routines and greeted friends and neighbors on his return.
