New Flour Rules Take Effect This Week Officials Warn
Beginning September 1 households will not need to observe the fifty-fifty rule for wheat flour and substitutes. Only 20 percent wheat flour substitutes will be required in bread and foods. A Washington telegram from Federal Food Administrator Leon Merrill urges mixed flours to keep supplies stable as allied nations share wheat saving. The Food Administration notes allies will use twenty percent non-wheat in wheat bread and calls for universal bread while preserving corn bread use.
