Tarring highways gives work to quite a crew
A mobile road-tarring crew camps briefly near Winneganee and Phippsburg Center. The 14 workers and cook spread tar and sand to finish a mile of road ten feet wide, with material ferried from Bath. The dry season keeps up a “tarring” campaign to preserve road conditions and slow dust.
