Brunswick Hopes To Lead State In Aviation Field
A Brunswick Chamber of Commerce meeting at New Meadows Inn launched a move to create a municipal aviation field in Brunswick. Army air service officers Lieut. Moffatt and Sergt. Schmidt inspected two sites, one on J. K. Estabrook’s River road farm and another on John J. Burchenal’s Paradise Spring Co. property on the Bath road, both deemed promising though one is distant. Moffatt noted Maine has only two designated landing places and urged Brunswick to lead by establishing the first municipal field in the state. The effort was organized by Burchenal, Bath Rotary speaker Harry Saunders, and Ellery C. Day.
