Bath Rail Freight Growth Tied to Demurrage Reform

Bath shows rising freight with no new tracks as Maine Central transfers eight cars daily to trolley lines and nine cars to local firms. Daily car handling hits 170, up 100 from last year, aided by faster demurrage rules and cooperative local business. Coal rail delivery increases Bath’s annual freight to about a quarter million dollars. If demand continues, Maine Central eyes capacity and efficiency gains to meet shifts in shipping patterns.
