Fire destroys large two story Sewall barn on Washington Street
An early forenoon blaze wrecked most of the Sewall estate two story barn on Washington near Edwards. Firemen fought the flames for over an hour as interiors burned, miles of hose laid, and only the outer walls remained. The barn, connected to the Sewall family noted Bath shipbuilders, housed historic carriages and stalls, with little salvageable from the interior. The cause appeared to be straw pile ignition, investigation ongoing.
