Opposition Voices To Cathance River Pollution Plan
At a Water Improvement Commission hearing in Augusta on Friday opposition to a Navy permit to pump sewerage into the Cathance River at Bowdoinham was voiced by sportsmen town officials and others from Sagadahoc County. Navy engineer Zavan Malkasian defended the plan saying waste would be treated to remove pollution, with costs including a potential extra 80000 to route waste to the Androscoggin. County officials including Roland H. Cobb and Robert Foye argued the plan would threaten the Cathance fishery and domestic use of river water. A petition with 80 signatures joined the opposition along with local fish and game club representatives.
