Oldest Sagada hoboken joins tales of major Harvard shipyards

Andrew Powers aged ninety four of Bath Maine recalls a life as a ship joiner across Bath Boston Chelsea and Woburn. He worked for Major Thomas Harvard Rideout Lemont and Jowell Small and survived a major ship launching mishap. He aided repairs after the ship toppled and later built the John Dickinson house in Bath.

Bath Launches Torpedo Boat Jouett Then Opens New Box Factory

A big crowd watched the torpedo boat Jouett launched in Bath amid drizzle. The launching followed a $100,000 erection for a wooden box factory on the former Shaw mill site by Lincoln County Lumber Company, planning to employ about 100 men and ship 1000 carloads yearly.

Fine new launch joins Kennebec Yacht Club fleet

Portland businessman Robert Hatch bought a 22 foot cedar launch with copper fastenings and mahogany finish for the Kennebec Yacht Club. The Atlantic pattern engine is 12 horsepower with three cylinders, built by the Atlantic company. The craft, aimed at 16 knots, will be a flyer in the club navy. A Bath mill owner pays the crew nearly $2,000 monthly, circulating much of it locally.

Renowned Bath Seaman Captain James F Murphy Passes

Bath mourns Captain James F Murphy a leading merchant mariner and civic figure. Born 1858 he sailed 60 Cape Horn passages and commanded ships including the David Brown Shenandoah and Kenilworth. He died after months of illness leaving his wife mother daughter and siblings in Bath. Funeral was held at his High Street home.
