Sawyer Chesley Rites Outline Long Life of Richmond Native
Sawyer Chesley of Richmond died Saturday morning after a brief illness. Born February 5, 1815 in Rome, Kennebec county, he was the son of Sawyer and Judith Chesley and the third in direct line with the name. He trained as a carpenter, worked in Bath shipyards, and later for Harrison Springer, Patten and Sturtevant, James Hagar, and others in Richmond. He married Elizabeth Weston in 1884 and spent periods in Massachusetts before returning to Richmond to continue his trade until recent years.
