The Bath Chamber of Commerce recalls its parent Bath Roar of Trade founded May 26 1863. It lists early presidents and 125 subscribers paying 85 a year creating a reading room. Sixth annual Holy Name minstrel show set for Columbia
The Holy Name society minstrels directed by John Shaw present their sixth annual show at Columbia on Monday and Tuesday nights, April 21 and 22, with 30 performers led by Johnny Marks and others. New features promise top entertainment, tickets go on sale next week. The Bath audience expects a first class performance unseen since Jameson’s Mastodon Minstrels. In Bath, Delia Brookings of Woolwich, with daughters Mrs Cromwell and Mrs Woodbridge and son Walter, and Capt. T A Cromwell, Boston, attended the burial at Riverside cemetery, Days Ferry.

Early Postal Service Takes Root in Maine History
In 1775 Maine opened its first post offices in Kennebunk Falmouth and Fath with foot and horseback carriers. Rates varied by distance and paper size and Bath’s mail reached by 1780 on foot via Richard Kimball. Luke Lambert carried Boston mail fortnightly by horse, pouch strapped behind the saddle. By 1791 Wiscasset hosted the eastern mail from Portland, with service extending to Castine by 1793.

The Bath built four master schooner Goward, long a noted American flag vessel, has been sold to French account ike go many. The new owners will take possession soon and likely use her in the coastal trade across the Atlantic. Goward, built by Gardiner G Deering in 1895, measures 205.6 feet in length with 394 feet beam and 19.6 feet depth, and has 1191 gross tons and 1054 net.
