Steamboats on the Kennebec Chronicle Era Notes
The piece recalls the Kennebec steamboat era led by the Sebenoa and Sasanoa on Bath to Popham Beach routes. The Creedmore, the first of the fleet, carried 12 passengers in 1878 on Bath to Popham excursions. The Sebenoa, launched July 5, 1880, joined in 1880 on Bath Boothbay routes, while the Samoset ferried to meet rising demand. Captain G A Lowe commanded the Sebenoa for most of its career and notable trips included a three hour and 25 minute run to Popham on July 7 1880.

Dewey Frigate Launched at Bath Iron Works
USS Dewey, America's newest guided missile frigate, slid down the ways Sunday afternoon at Bath Iron Works before several hundred spectators. Sponsor Congresswoman Katherine St George of New York, naval officials, and Rear Admiral Armand M. Morgan attended as the 512 foot ship, longest launched on the Kennebec, entered the water amid bitter winds. The vessel displaces 5000 tons and was launched nearly a half hour ahead of schedule to favor wind and tide. One mishap occurred when a hawser snapped to a tug, but the ship docked smoothly. Mrs. St George, sponsor, is from Tuxedo Park, NY and has served 12 years on the Armed Forces committee.
