A Wednesday village lodge meeting saw two fellow craft candidates. Local clubs, school news, sports results, and residents’ comings and goings fill the Bowdoinham scene with awards, visits, and changes as families prepare for spring activities.
Community notes from Phippsburg recount visitors to Bath and Topsham, health updates on Mrs. McIntire and Mrs. Bowker, repairs by Irving Perry and Albert Redlon at Polo Island, brown tail moth work, lambs at Hillcrest Farm, and business trips by D. A. Merry and James E. Perry. Also mention of steamer City of Memphis voyage, hub of social visits, and planned piano classes by Mayd W. Stainton with early lessons set for April 10.
Repairs convert a house to a garage with Mr Blackman on carpentry and Mr Wilson preparing a car storage area. Woodsum endures two shocks at the MCRR station. F K Jack returns home for weekend duties in Augusta and battles a cold. Miss Bertha Wiggin to teach spring term on Post Road after a 12 week term. Pupils Orrin Gould and Herbert Heath missed no days. Maxa Purington, Frank Heath Jr., and Floyd Purington missed one day. A neighborhood party at Miss Prudence Purington’s ends happily with ice cream and cake. A large grass fire erupts near Guy Carpenter’s field. many men assist. A fallen barn near the Henry Millay place is burned. Mrs. Harry Purington travels to Portland for her mother Addie Thoms’s illness. Robeus Douglass, George Jack, and Hollis High School graduates head to Washington. Mr Jack is principal. Donis Chick of Monmouth visits Annie Millay.
Mrs Alton Oliver hosted the Evening Workers gathering Thursday. Several residents recover from illness, including Mrs Seymour Hayden and Zina Hunt. Miss Eleanor Morse started at Pitch Pine Hill school, and Joshua Upton recovers from a hip injury at City Hospital. Tug Ariel ferries barge Richardson light to Philadelphia via Gardiner.
A notice invites interested stduents to form a piano instruction class serving Phippsburg Small Point and Parker Head. First visit at studio 157 Front Street Bath or leave word with Harry S. Hosmer Ashdale.
March 31 at the hall of Topsham Grange. Officers present except one, welcomed by E C Patten and replied to by Lillian Rogers. Programs include piano solo, readings, vocal and violin solos, and discussions on crops and church relations. Census figures read, Elizabeth Whitney paper read, poems performed, and remarks by Grange leaders.
Ralph Davis of Five Islands looked over a boat to buy at Sebasco this week. The grip circulates. Chester Wilson is sick as well as Mr and Mrs William Wilson. W S Harley family on sick list. Albertina Ridley home from Hebron Academy. G E Black visited Portland. Vena Alexander family visiting East Harpswell. Melvin Wallace Emma Ridley and Estella McKinney also sick.
