Big Huntington Fire Destroys Lumber Yard and Grain Elevator
A major blaze in Huntington Indiana gutted a small shed beside the Knudson Mercer Lumber Co and spread to a larger shed containing thousands of feet of lumber to be dried. The fire reached the Schowenders Weber grain elevator next to the Wabash tracks and razed it. Several Wabash trains were set ablaze along the tracks, burning cars and contents. Firemen laid six hose lines, delaying control, and a Perry engine helped move cars to safety. Estimated damage likely over $10000.
