Joseph Schantz died at 5:20 p m Monday November 9 1903 at his home south of Napoleon from pneumonia after helping neighbors press hay. He leaves a wife three children his parents four brothers and two sisters. Funeral in the Catholic church at Napoleon Thursday at 10 a m.
A veteran notice urges all soldiers with ninety days service from 1861 to 1865 to join a Grand Army post. It calls on posts to petition Congress for a service pension bill and notes 50 60 thousand veterans in the state with 47 829 on Indianapolis rolls as of June 30 1908. The signatories urge rapid membership to strengthen the petition.

Marshal Fred Brummer arrested Oscar Laughlin and Clarence Kramer for jumping a freight train caboose. Laughlin was fined one cent and costs after being held in Squire Stowe's court. Kramer was released for lack of affidavit. The incident, blamed on local youths, sparked a critique of the punishment as a farce and noted the one cent fine would fund school expenses.
