Local merchants advertise a range of offerings including buggies stoves ranges and oysters. Additional notices list Brummer's machine shop repairs jackets furs and a fox hound litter for sale plus residents traveling to Cincinnati and nearby business callers.
A boy crossing the Sunman tracks with a team and wagon Saturday afternoon was struck by a fast passenger train and suffered a broken leg. The wagon back belonging to Jessie Wainscott was wrecked, the boy was thrown onto a rail, the horses escaped with minor injuries, and the fore part of the wagon vanished. The accident occurred in front of Bushing and Beer's warehouse.
The Batesville town election is discussed with calls for voters to consider town welfare over party lines. Mentions include depot distance settled at 2,200 feet, affecting mail carrier service, and a travel update as Mrs. Anna Wachsman and children visit Indianapolis. A telegram reports Mrs. Jos. N. Zueke’s mother near death in Hartford, West Virginia.
M. R. Connelley started a Monday morning trip from Lawrenceburg to Louisville via intermediate towns for Adams & Curtis Shoe Co. Miss Mary Schroeder arrived from Indianapolis last Sunday to visit home folks with two companions. Chas. Meyer offers clothing including cloaks jackets and furs with prices to suit all budgets.
The column lists shop offerings from Meyer's Walsman's Engle's and Thie Vonderheide's including loaded shells hot belts stoves and ranges and coffee priced at 18 cents a pound. Residents travel to Cincinnati for voting visiting and supplies and local officials discuss rural free delivery.
Siefert Bros of Shelbyville left an automobile for sale at George Bessler’s exhibition. The sale event is advertised as the place to find desired cars.
Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No 1180 hosts a ball tomorrow evening November 3 at St Clair’s hall with refreshments and hot lunch. All welcome. Indianapolis dentists specializing in painless extraction open a Batesville office and will visit Ripley Hotel on Saturdays. Their easy method of removing diseased teeth is well known locally.
On Friday October 27 at her son-in-law Harney iSeen residence near Napoleon Mrs. Oswald mother of Martin Oswald of this place died. Undertaker John Kanning with Mr Bodenberg transported the body from Napoleon to this town for burial. The funeral occurred Monday at St Ludwig’s Catholic church.
Marshal Rebel arrested Jackson Irvin on a charge of assault and battery against Miss da Russel. He was arraigned in Squire Stowe's court and fined $1.00 plus costs totaling $5.00. Irvin bore facial injuries and claimed Russel had attacked him after her complaint. The marshal planned to arrest Miss Russel on the same charge, but she has not yet confronted him.
Halloween night pranks described as minor mischief, but some acts deemed mean and punishable. Fire bell rung to wake firemen causing unease and possible danger of missed alarms. Church lettering defaced in red paint will require repainting. Calls for fines and public shaming to deter future acts. Several local notices follow.
The annual Ripley County Farmers Institute will be held in Osgood on November 20 and 21 under the association’s auspices. Three state instructors will attend along with local speakers and music. Sessions are free and open to all. County officials Tavis W. Saltmarsh and Mrs. Eva F. Hughes oversee arrangements.
Henry Hinke and wife from Covington Kentucky visited Saturday for the silver wedding anniversary of Henry C. Greemann and his wife. The visit ended as they returned home on Saturday. Mrs Adam Mozer and her two daughters Pauline and Elsie left Saturday for St Louis to begin a new home there. Mrs Jos Luttmiller visited her sister Miss Kate Bauer in Indianapolis Friday. Bauer was very ill with a tumor and died Sunday.
Mrs Christ Weismiller of Elwood travels to Tipton after a brief stay with her sister Mrs H C Greemann.
Mrs. Maggie Ziegel of Indianapolis visited Adam Bauer and wife south of town on Sunday. William Sieg of Sunman conducted a brief business visit in town Tuesday evening.
Mrs Will Kammeyer visits Spades Friday morning to see home folks while Henry Brockman transacts business in Cincinnati Tuesday with passing mention of travel and daily routines.
The list of pupils at Hoyer school Laughery township shows Carrie Busch Adolph Siebert Roy Hoyer Elizabeth Siebert Walco Michel Elma Siebert and Marie Siebert as neither sturdy nor absent during the first month. Carrie L THACKERY, Teacher.
Miss Mollie Walter of Pueblo Colorado visits her aunt Mrs Louis Ambrecht from Saturday to Monday then returns to her parents near New Marion. George Walter arrives with his daughter Flora to view his father's grave and Flora will attend Batesville public school this winter.
Henry C. Greemann and wife observed their silver wedding anniversary Saturday evening with about forty relatives and friends. Guests included Herman Greemano and wife, Herman Schnitker of Shelbyville, Mrs. Chas Wesler, Louis Annewehr, and relatives from Elwood and Covington Ky. Revs Holzapfel and the Greemann family attended, a substantial supper followed, and many silver gifts were presented.

Dr. M. J. Coomes and his wife arrived in Batesville Monday evening. He intends forming a medical partnership with Dr. C. W. Gibson. Dr. Coomes is well known in the southern part of the county, with past practice in Brown, Shelby and other southern townships.
