Miss Anna Oswald of Cincinnati visited home folks, while Mrs John Hotapp and Mrs Henry Brokering with Miss Emma Bohner traveled to Cincinnati for shopping. A Baptist Ladies Aid ice cream social plans bloomers in May with 5 cent admission to fund a church. Proceeds support Batesville church building.

The American and Western factory boys will meet for a ball game at the fair grounds this Thursday afternoon. A considerable purse is up for grabs, promising an exciting contest. Miss Anna Griesehop returned from Shelbyville Wednesday noon to stay likely three months, while her sister Lizzie left for Shelbyville Wednesday evening after a month at home.
About ten houses are under construction or contracted in Batesville and at least twenty more are expected to be built this summer. Every completed home will be occupied promptly.
Miss Rose Blank daughter of John Blank of this place died at the Oldenburg convent Sunday evening around 7 40 o clock from hemorrhage of the lungs at age 23. Funeral was held Tuesday morning at 7 o clock.
Sheriff Voss brought Fred Mozer and Ben Schene to Versailles on Wednesday to discuss selling without license and operating slot machines. Prosecuting attorney will pursue the case, signaling stricter enforcement of Indiana gambling and licensing laws.

Letters addressed to Chas. Kuntz and D. McCallllum, P. M., not called for by May 30, 1902, will be sent to the dead letter office in Washington, D.C.
Greensburg Ind May 19 1902 excursion tickets from Batesville to Greensburg offered by the Big 4 for round trip travel. For more information contact local agent Chas J Doll. Ed Hancock moved furniture to New Castle and secured plastering contracts for ten new houses at four cents more per yard than in Greensburg, promising greater earnings than his newspaper business.
The Navy Department received a portrait of Capt. Mad Jack Percival famed for a Morocco mission where, in mock defiance of a cargo of jack asses, he displayed the head of an ass from every part of his frigate to ridicule the service.

A Union ball will be held Saturday night at St Clair’s ball in anticipation of Pente cost. Attendees will be entertained by the Victor talking machine famed for its perfect reproduction of the human voice and audible for a quarter of a mile.
Opening game at Brookville featured Stars against Brookville with Bailey and Roell on the mound. Roell fanned nine as Bailey allowed more hits but received solid defense. four Brookville double plays thwarted Brooklyn scoring. Dowdy earned a two base hit, and a Savage run sequence highlighted the early amateur baseball classic.
The Stars start the season next Sunday at the fairgrounds with a return game against Brookville in new uniforms. The Eureka band will perform to enliven the crowd. Admission charges are Gents 1dc and ladies 10c.
