Miss Theresia Hotopp and Frank Kellermann of Oldenburg were married in a nuptial High Mass at St. Louis Catholic church with attendants Pete Kellermann Cora Hackmann Henry Hotopp and Lulu Kellermann. The couple will live in Oldenburg after a wedding trip through Ohio.
Frank McCartney was found guilty by a Ripley circuit court jury for the Napoleon Bank robbery on February 13. He faces 1 to 14 years in state prison. McCartney was identified by Napoleon Bank cashier Kreuner after being trapped by Pinkerton detectives. the verdict followed a forty minute jury deliberation. Other brief items note visits and local ads.
Severe storm last Thursday struck Manchester twice. The Manchester M. B. church steeple was demolished with an estimated loss of 600 dollars. Nearby, Lewis Vollmer's barn was struck but sustained minimal damage. Various local residents traveled to Cincinnati and Indianapolis for visits and medicines over the weekend. Local ads note cleaning soap at Kramer's and corn fertilizers at Tie & Vonderheide's.
Saturday's shoot drew the best attendance of the season with Tim Merman leading at 18 points and Kops at 17. Romy used blank shells except twice as the wet grounds and favorable weather influenced the event.
Miss Wilhelmina Hahn of this place died from drinking carbolic acid at her Cincinnati home after an appendicitis operation. She reportedly mistook the bottle for medicine, taking the acid instead and dying about an hour later. Her mother Mrs Hahn is J A Bosse’s daughter. relatives attended the funeral.
The Ladies Auxiliary held a progressive euchre night despite heavy rain. Eight games were played with prizes awarded to Miss Carrie Tekulve for ladies first, Mrs. Frank Meyer for ladies second, Miss Martha Benz for consolation, B J Kessing for gents first, Henry Obermeyer for gents second, and Harry Pohlman for booby prize. Dancing and light refreshments followed. attendees were pleased with the outcome.
The well known brakeman Geo White was killed west of Sunman on April 29 1901. His body was brought to town for burial preparations by Behlmer Bruns. His father from near Petersburg Kentucky arrived with the Aurora undertaker to take the body home. He was deeply affected as he is the third railroad worker in the family to die, the second death occurring about a year ago.
In Greensburg a Black assault on Mrs. Caroline Sefton last Thursday sparked bitter tensions. A mob of about 200 whites beat six Black residents Tuesday, with warnings for Black residents to leave the city amid fears of further unrest.
A series of land transfers recorded in multiple townships including Washington Adams Shelby Brown Otter Creek Franklin and Johnson. Parties include John I Smith Elizabeth Shuck Herman Nordloh Frances A Kelley Fred Kamman Mary Fontanaro etc with sums from 30 to 5500 and parcels ranging from 1 to 149 acres.
A mean sneak entered Mrs. Chas. Clostermeyer’s hen house near Cross Roads on Saturday night and carried off about eight chickens and a sack of corn. The elderly widow, nearly eighty, mourns the loss as others roosted too high to be taken.
The St John’s Young People’s Society hosts a handkerchief and apron bazaar at the Huntersville school house on Thursday night May 9. All are invited. Also note ads for Mio na stomach aid, Kaas and Schultz guarantee, and local sightings from Cincinnati. Community notices include visitors from Cincinnati, Delaware, Indianapolis, and local merchants offering manure spreaders, buggies, grinding feed, and hardware items.
Elmer Cook 12 year old son of Henry Cook of near North Branch was found by the roadside on Clostermeyer hill in a pitiable state. He wandered from home daily, suffered an epileptic spell, had no shoes and bandaged feet, and was taken to Dr. L F Martin before being returned home by his uncle Charles Siefert.
H. B. Stowe suffered a severe laceration to the left hand when a wood sliver from a rip-saw at Greemann Bros factory struck him Tuesday morning. The wound was stitched and he is hoped to recover quickly. Tax notes warn owners of Lots 213 and 214 in Batesville’s second addition, listed as Unknown, unpaid for some time and subject to sale. Local notices include sales, visits, and social items from Sunman to Cincinnati, with brief business and goods ads.
The Osgood Shamrocks beat Batesville 6 to 3 on a wet field Sunday afternoon. A misplayed bunt cost Batesville two runs in the seventh. A Nickel and Young led batters with multiple hits while Ort Terry and Benz pitched for both teams.
The Leroys traveled to Oldenburg Sunday, challenged the town’s big team and lost 12 to 11 blaming the umpire for the defeat. Leroys lineups included Weigel Blank and Obermeyer with 56210000 3 C-l Comets x-112 Batteries. Comets featured Jones Mollaun and Gehring.
Ministers of the Cincinnati District of the German M E Church will hold a mid year conference at the German M E Church Batesville Indiana from May 1 to 16. First session on Tuesday at 2 pm with daily sessions at 850 am 2 pm and 730 pm about thirty ministers expected all papers and addresses in German attendees welcome.
