Mock Senate Tax Bill Draws Crowd at Weekend Meeting
A large audience attended a Saturday mock Senate session to hear speeches and criticisms. The bill proposed a tax on all unmarried men 24 and older and married or divorced men over 24, with a minimum tax of fifteen dollars. Some opponents used parliamentary tricks, but a majority supported the bill though it fell short of a constitutional majority. The Senate schedules another meeting for next Saturday at 7 PM.

A Blazing Flue Fire Alarm Sparks Bucket Brigade
Last Saturday a blaze erupted from shingles around the flue at George Annewehr’s residence. A quick response formed a human bucket line from ground to roof as A B Wycoff rang the fire alarm at City Hall and Dr Gibson helped position a ladder. Firemen gained control with minor losses.

Take In New Members Home Camp No 3810 Initiates Strangers
Home, Sweet Home Camp No. 3810 welcomed seven strangers into their camp Saturday night. The initiates were young wanderers of the forest and some suffered the usual consequences of such rites. Deputy Grand Counselor Fitch led the initiation and a ham sandwich lunch with coffee followed.
