A Batesville assembly suggests a yearly Rooster Day to slaughter male birds and boost summer eggs. Poultry dealers would pay high prices for roosters to reduce fertilized eggs that spoil quality. The plan aims to cut egg losses by May and support local dealers.
Batesville lost 8 to something at Sunday’s game while Eckert hit a homer and Fritsch stole bases. Memorial services at Hantersville cemetery honored Civil War veterans with band music and speeches despite low local turnout. Gifts and showers highlighted upcoming weddings in Batesville as school commencement week drew praise for graduates and teachers.
Commencement exercises were held at Perry Chapel on Saturday May 30 to honor twenty graduates the largest class in the school’s history. Dr King president of Moores College delivered the address on And Battled Countries and impressed with his English and humor.
On a Saturday evening near the passenger depot a clash erupted as hoboes boarded trains Nos 16 and 14, fighting with a brakeman who hurled coal and was later hit by stones. Fourteen youths were left on the track, while Sunday movers acted as a band of roosters atop freight cars. Adolph Kaiser and family visited Olean area, returning Sunday evening with Ed Ambrecht driving.
Young Peoples' Society of St. Pauls church hosts a lawn fete at Cross Roads on Tancred ys June 11 with refreshments and amusements. An auto bus run by Mr Poblar will shuttle attendees from Schultz's drug store after 6 o'clock. All are invited. Alice Schwier, 18, died Sunday at home of her parents on RR 1. Funeral held at Salem church with interment in Salem cemetery.
Thiel was re elected to the school board as a Democrat. Peter Holzer ran against him for Place II in a Democratic contest. The council, solidly Democratic, saw a three to two vote in Thiel’s favor with both candidates described as qualified and pro public schools. The division did not hinge on party lines.

Hatesville Milling Company plans four new elevators with 1000 bushels capacity each and a corn and cob crusher. The 20 by 30 foot building will rise about 40 feet high, aiding farmers by providing crushed feed options and space to dispose of wheat. Mrs Maud Fecher is improving under nurse care.
