C C Ebel and wife with son Willie from Cincinnati visited relatives near Cross Roads during a Sunday excursion. Charley returned that evening leaving his wife and son for a country stay. Big Four surveyors resume work on town route changes claiming the south line by the fair grounds is 627 feet shorter and 800 feet shorter than the proposed north line.
Local brief items include smoke shorts Pride of Cuba, Mathias Steiger on sick list, and fans at N. Blanks. Philip Boerstler advertises improved sewing machines. Mr. Chas. R. Porter, secretary of the Shelbyville Greensburg Batesville Electric Road Co., visited Oldenburg to discuss right of way for an electric line to Batesville. He notes slow stock sales and financing, but remains confident the road will be built despite difficulties.

John S. Benham from Lincolnville arrived Monday for several weeks to oversee construction of a house on the rectangular lot at the junction of Main Street and the Brookville road, south of Henry Winsor's residence.
The Huntersville Sunday School plans an annual picnic and entertainment at St. Clair's Hall on Saturday August 16. The event will offer amusements and refreshments for all and invites everyone to attend.
Batesville Coffin Co sent a large carload to St Louis last Friday. The shipment included 76 boxes containing 101 varnished and 24 covered caskets, marking one of the largest single-firm shipments in the company’s history.
Miss Mary Strauss entertained about ten couples last Thursday in honor of Miss Grace Cain who has stayed here for some time. The guests left Monday morning for Dover Kentucky to visit relatives in Versailles and Milan on the way home. The party featured recitations and music both vocal and instrumental.
Fred Mozer loaded a single load of hay and drove into town on Wednesday. The pony bolted from near his saloon and dragged the wagon into the rail line, hitting a telegraph post before being stopped by passersby. The wagon toppled, harness broke, hay spilled, but the pony was only possibly sore from kicking.
Fred Kretzmeyer is reported to have a genuine smallpox case. His residence is quarantined and he and his family endure the isolation required by the situation.
Notice states stores will close at 7 p m on all weeknights starting Monday July 21 with Saturday exemptions. Also mentions Miss Susie Nickel from Denver visiting Miss Mary Strauss and plans to call on Greensburg friends. The Tribune offers free delivery to recipients who have not subscribed and promises to stop sending if not subscribed.
Tuesday evening Chas Wesler and his two sons Amos and Ted went to purify water in a well. Ted fell in and was rescued by Wesler who reached down and pulled him from the plunger pole. Ted, nearly four, was pale but unharmed after the 8 foot deep issue.
Batesville Stars beat Cincinnati Ramblers 4 to 1 on local grounds. Roell pitched dominatingly with 15 strikeouts and two base hits for himself, while Nickol, Burdick, and H Schroeder contributed key hits as Batesville stays undefeated in nine games this season.
Lawrenceburg correspondent notes an upcoming game against Batesville with a 3100 payout. No local arrangement yet, but residents would enjoy watching the matchup.
