Mrs. Fred Bauman ill with grip for over two weeks and Miss Maud Moore improving after illness. Families plan moves, dances, and day trips with friends in Shelbyville Morris Cincinnati Indianapolis and Oldenburg. Local shops promote sale bills and refreshments at Meyers restaurant.
Will Ferris and his wife from Suoman arrived Monday evening after a telegram said Miss Anna Uter, sister to Mrs. Ferris, was dangerously ill at her parents Robert Uter and wife home.
In Batesville and nearby areas illness persists as cold weather worsens colds grip and pneumonia. Doctors report overwork as they cope with sixteen to eighteen hour shifts and high patient load.
In a testimonial Harriet Howard of 209 West 34th Street New York claims Bucklens Arnica cured years of Salt Rheum or Eczema followed by praise for its quick healing for cuts burns and sores. The ad notes 25 cents at Baas Schultz stores. The piece also mentions a cold winter with record low temperatures and a social gathering at Mrs Henry Winsors tenth wedding anniversary with attendees listed and gifts given.
Seed sowers at Walsman's and boots at Frank Walsman are advertised. Oysters daily at Engels and fresh fish at Benz's meat market. Will St. Clair visits Greensburg, and a mask ball is set for St. Clair's. Ed Giesen of Indianapolis visits his mother. Several residents travel for sales, schooling, employment, and funerals in nearby towns.
A daughter was born on Friday to Frank Frage and his wife. It is noted that a son might have favored the Democrats, but the girl is unlikely to vote the Democratic ticket. Albert Stetschel and family relocated to Tivansville on Monday for a new job in a local coffin factory, after previously working in Batesville Coffin and Casket Co.'s cloth room.
Letters addressed to Miss Dena Brandsasse William Kappes and D McCaLuck P M will be sent to the dead letter office if not called for by February 28.
The recent deep freeze ruined many potted flowers and lowered potato supplies while fruit cans reportedly caused frictions among kitchen staff. Indianapolis weather records show 16 degrees below zero at 9 p.m. Sunday, with historic lows of 25 below on January 5, 1894 and 22 below on January 3, 1872.
The funeral procession for Fred Gohs left St Mark's church on Sunday afternoon. Interment followed at St John's Cemetery in Huntersville. Rev Gringle delivered the sermon. The body was shipped from Cincinnati after his death at his brother's residence there.

Henry Specht aged about 76 died Tuesday at his home after two weeks of illness. He lived with his son Henry and prepared supper Monday night before retiring. He was a respected figure, survived by three children. Burial took place at St Ludwig Catholic cemetery.

Alois Roell and wife visited his relatives at Morris over Sunday, returning to Batesville Monday morning. Miss Eila Steinfort went to Indianapolis Friday morning to stay with her sister, Ida, who is down with typhoid fever. Joseph Luttmiller, Jr., who has been working in Indianapolis for the past six months, returned home Sun FOR SALE Slab wood $1.25, hickory clippings, $1.50 per two-horse load. Will make prompt delivery if ordered now. The Hillenbrand Company. Henry Goyert and his two little boys, who spent a couple of days with him at Indianapolis, came home Saturday evening. Henry returned to Indianapolis Monday morning.
Judge Dillon of Columbus Colorado issued nine decrees of divorce in under three hours averaging one dissolution every twenty minutes as couples rush filings ahead of anticipated anti-divorce laws from Congress and the President.

In Ind sOINT Ambrose Hickmans narrowly escape tragedy as a frightened horse breaks from the buggy during a funeral procession. Mrs Hickman falls, the nine year old daughter leaps free and runs to her father. The horse bolted through fences, covered a half mile, then was caught. all suffered a severe shock but no serious injuries.
Promoters invite attendance at a Masquerade ball to be held at St. Clairs hall on Saturday night February 18. Other items note local trades, a pedestrian recovery, and a series of homeseekers excursions with dates in February March and April via the Big Four route.

Conrad Gohs expresses heartfelt thanks to all who assisted during his father Frederick Gohs sickness and burial. Special gratitude to undertaker Henry Severinghaus, Rev. Gringle, and St. Mark's congregation and choir. May the good Lord reward them all.

John Burton Hickman born March 27 1820 near Delaware Rimey county Indiana died February 6 1905 near Batesville aged 11 years 10 months 10 days. He married Mary Ann Moody on his 25th birthday and they had twelve children nine surviving with the widow. The family lived in Aurora Indiana Mt Carroll Illinois and finally near Batesville on the same farm. Had he lived 1 month 18 days longer he would have marked sixtieth wedding anniversary. Hickman started poor but through honest toil built a fair estate and eleven children reached adulthood. Rebecca Ann died at age two Cassius and John died recently. He was honest upright and influential a Republican who voted for Theodore Roosevelt. He joined Newpoint Christian church in August 1879 and died a believer. Death caused by asthma complicated with grip with intense suffering yet consciousness remained. Funeral at New Pennington M E B church conducted by Rev Goodnight. All children attended except Daniel Morton and James due to family sickness.
