Batesville Team Extends Winning Streak with Royals Victory

Batesville won again improving to 10 169 in standings as they beat the Cincinnati Cham pion Royals 6 to 3. Iron Man Benz pitched superbly after the second inning allowing four hits and striking out eleven, while local fielding was off their regular pace. The largest crowd of the season attended and organizers hope fans stay loyal for upcoming tough games.

Ripley Circuit Court Opens With Light Docket

The Ripley Circuit Court convenes Monday September 2 with a light docket. Grand jurors listed include Henry Heimsath, Charles Rouse, Henry Reinhart, Frank Brailey, Forest Hartley and George Wheeler. The will of Earnest F. Ballman probated. executor William H. Ballmano. bond $7,000. Edward Pendergast estate appoint Lee Pendergast administrator. bond $200. A suit for receivership filed by Aug Bloemer et al. against Henry Behrmann. Marriage license granted to F G Oberle and Theresa Prickel of Morris.

Three Big Games Scheduled by Manager Nickel

The Cincinnati Reserves, a fast team, beat Osgood 3 to 2 in a bitter contest. Sunday game starts at 2 30 p m. Monday hosts two games at 9 50 a m and 2 00 p m. Local visitors from Indianapolis described a mud delay but enjoyed the trip.

Fred Hahn’s little girl fractured her left arm above the wrist when a fence rail turned while climbing Tuesday evening. Dr. Gibson set the bone.

Trustees Meet In Regular Session With Full Board

The Town Board met Monday night with all members present. Marshal Borgstede was absent and made no report. Clerk Drescher reported the arrival of a car of rubble and flagging and the 1907 Batesville corporation tax valuation from the county auditor. The board authorized street repairs on George street and crossing projects at Albert Catharine Elm and First North Vine. The marshal to investigate a Pearl street culvert. Labor Day speaking rights granted. Ordinance No 67 set Batesville tax levy at 1.89 per hundred, two cents higher than 1906. Nickel theater rent fixed at 1.00 per night for six months. John Kraus allowed to open a drain on Main street. Marsh al ordered to flush hydrants and study township pike on Western avenue. Claims approved: J. H. Borgstede 53.08 and C. J. Doll 71.88. Adjourned to Sept 9.

Labor Day Celebration in Batesville by Patriotic Association

Batesville to observe Labor Day with a public celebration at S J Clair's hall under the Batesville Patriotic Association. Hon James E Watson will deliver an address. A small crowd gathered opposite a Batesville minister’s door at night pretending to be Salvation Army. One speaker argued Christ turned water into wine, opposing saloon closures. The act is condemned as an insult to the minister and to decency.

Elizabeth Prell Dies After Lingering Illness

Miss Lizzie Prell, 33, died Tuesday at 4 30 AM at her sister Mrs. William Giesen’s home after several months of illness. She is survived by her aged father three sisters and two brothers. Funeral at German M E Church Friday at 2 PM. The family mourns her loss.

Timber sale planned near Batesville by Hillenbrand Company

The Hillenbrand Company has bought a large tract of timber in Byram Mississippi and plans a public sale at their Batesville area farm around October 1 to liquidate saw mills engines farm implements wagons horses mules and their Black Poll cattle herd Buyers for any stock are urged to wait for the sale. Several local residents are mentioned in brief notes of visits and travel with no further major events.

Leroys Extend Winning Streak Over Morris 12 to 4

The Leroy ball team defeated Morris 12 to 4 at Leroy Park extending their winning streak. Weigel fanned nine as Leroys surged with eleven runs after the fourth inning and completed a triple play in the eighth. Bischoff allowed seven hits and walked four for Morris.
