At his Sunman area home Mr. Elmore Saltmarsh died Tuesday morning after retiring the previous night in good health. A respected Ripley county resident, Saltmarsh will be missed by his local community.
The parade forms at 4 a m on Walnut street in front of the Catholic church and travels a long route through main streets ending at the fair ground for a race track review. The Queen's float stands about twelve feet high and trees along the route should be trimmed to protect the displays.
The Big Four announces a Labor Day sale with excursion tickets from points within fifty miles of Batesville for the lowest one way fare for a round trip. Tickets are valid returning on all regular trains stopping at the destination the next day. Invite friends to join the offer.
A Sunday gathering from Cincinnati enjoyed Wm St Clair and Mrs St Clair hospitality in shaded grounds with Henry Wimer and family Wm Wimer and family Sam Greenewald Ben Geyman Ben Kramberg Henry Vogt Mr Uhlman and families. George Schmidt acted as special police and kept order. All left Monday morning pleased and likely to return.

Several residents travel between Cincinnati Indianapolis and local towns for visits and shopping. A seven room house sale on favorable terms is advertised with immediate sale urged.
Mehlon the tailor did scouring. Locals visit relatives in Sunman Cincinnati and Rushville. George Travis advertised low price wheat drills at Krieger's. Loree Living Pond Lily act featured in the musical comedy A Jolly Man's Troubles. Performers promise wholesome humor, catchy music and elaborate staging at St. Clair's ball on August 30.
MARRIED-At Winton Place near Cincinnati on Tuesday Aug 26 1902 Rev Claude Sylvester wed Miss Pearl Robinson of Winton Place. After the ceremony the couple returned to Connersville and will reside in Batesville with hopes of happiness for years.
Floats for the Labor Day floral parade travel a great distance to be shown. Ten thousand blossoms cover each float crafted by Batesville girls whose patience and skill elevate Sowers. See them in person to believe their beauty.
The St Pauls congregation from Cross Roads held a Thursday picnic at St Clair's grove. A large crowd attended the event with ample food and drinks in St Clair's new dining hall. Music was free and the crowd behaved well. Net receipts were about 275 dollars.
D Selker an optic ian from Cleveland arrived in Batesville Monday and will stay at the New Ripley House. He offers free eye tests and glasses priced reasonably with charges for examination not made.
Notice to delegates outlines assembly and travel plan for the September 6 1902 Republican convention at Versailles. Batesville delegates meet at town hall 5 a m. Laughery township and others line along the road. All proceed to Versailles via Napoleon and Salem church road with a Laughery brass band providing music.
William Hallowell of Pendleton in Madison county reports a recent cyclone that ripped through the area, destroying corn, toppling barns and houses, while his family arrived Friday to visit. He was thrown from a meat wagon as the wagon overturned and horses were blown against a fence, yet no serious injuries occurred.
On Monday a dog owned by Ed Timmerman ran wild through West Pearl Street in a frenzied, twitching display. The animal froth at the mouth but did not bite. Timmerman shot the dog to prevent harm, leaving Pearl Street residents startled by the episode.
Batesville Stars, minus three regulars, defeated Morris Orioles 9 to 5 Sunday. Roell pitched for Batesville, while Engel starred with bat and glove. Offense struck early, four runs in first, five in fifth, then eased off as steady defense backed the win.
The Juniors beat Sunman 34 to 5 in a game shortened by the eighth inning. The visitors piled up runs in big clusters as Sunman cried enough, marking a third consecutive Sunman defeat at the Juniors’ hands.
The Stars host Newpoint next Sunday and Greensburg on Monday, with both games promising a tough challenge. Newpoint travels strengthened and will provide strong argument, while Greensburg will push the Stars to hustle for a win. Don’t miss either game.
Smoke Schorrs Havanna Blossoms M R Connelley traveled to Greensburg on business Thursday. Fred Schafer from Cincinnati visited his brother J H Schaf er and family Sunday.
Notice requests all signers to pay their amount to treasurer William Schwier or leave it with August Bloemer at the Sherman House. Ezra Thackery of Company D Volunteers attended a Greensburg reunion for his old regiment and then traveled to Dubois for a maternal relatives gathering.
The Laughery township Republicans met in Batesville on Saturday August 23 to select delegates and alternates to the county convention. Precincts 1 2 and 3 received 13 12 and 12 delegate slots respectively with a full slate announced and alternates listed. After nominations Frank Duhme urged harmony and fidelity to party nominees while D McCallum offered welfare ideas for Ripley county. A three member precinct committee was appointed to arrange travel to the convention and the meeting adjourned with peace and harmony existing.
