Tanks Flatten Village In French Front Drive

British tanks operating south of the Amiens Roye road advance amid heavy machine gun fire from a town. Five armored tanks charged into second story positions and crushed the houses killing German gunners, then rolled on to flatten nine more structures, wiping out the enemy in the village.

Drowned in Eagle Creek After Desire to Swim

In Indianapolis on August 12 a mother and her eight year old son Bertha Viola Smith and John William Smith drowned in Eagle Creek near Morris street. They went swimming while the father was away and were found in the creek with the boy in his mother's arms. Police reported two bodies seen in the water and the cause believed to be the boy’s depth. The father Everitt Barton Smith was notified by a neighbor.
