Hiram Humphrey of Lincolnville was struck by a sulky shaft during a pacing race at the Osgood fair last Thursday. He suffered a fractured hip a broken nose severe hand and wrist scrapes. He was taken to his son James Humphrey in Osgood where Drs Beckett and Freeman treated him and he is on the road to recovery.
On Friday evening August 22 1902 Professor L J Rettger of Terre Haute will give a lecture at St Clair's hall to aid the public school library. This starts a three lecture series. Admission is 15 cents and all are invited. Local contractors Burton and Comingore visited Greensburg seeking gas prospecting and report confidence in gas finds here with a 3820 psi well at New Point yielding 40 000 feet daily valued high in pipe. There is talk of forming a development company to test the area. Grant Johnson and Guy White arrived from Versailles while Johnson defends himself against county charges and responds to a previous Tribune piece about Newton Jackson. Johnson shows courage and willingness to stand by his views.
Local Batesville items note grain sacks and Hoosier wheat drills at Walsman. Various visits and social events across Batesville and nearby towns, with excursions to Cincinnati and Lawrenceburg, plus notices of fund contributions and a Big Four round trip sale to Benton Harbor.
Pete Roell traveled to Covington Kentucky on Sunday to audition as regular pitcher for the hometown club. He performed well aiding Covington to a 12 to 5 win over a strong Hamilton Ohio lineup.

Mrs Mike Benz and her children traveled to New Alsace on Wednesday for a reunion at the home of her father Joseph Wilhelm. Mrs Quirin Vonderheide from this place joined last Sunday. A large crowd was expected due to many of Mr Wilhelm’s children and a substantial number of grandchildren.
The Huntersville Sunday school plans an annual entertainment and picnic at St. Clair's Grove on Saturday August 16. Activities include a bowling swing in the afternoon and a 7 PM program with music dialogues a power play tableaux by children a Liberty and Germany friendship scene and diplomas of honor for U S teachers presented by Rev von Hahmann Arning. Admission is 10 cents for adults and 5 cents for children.
The Batesville Stars beat the Listons of Cincinnati 14 to 4 on a muddy Fairgrounds diamond. Terry pitched well despite wet conditions, fanning ten, while Listons fumbled often. Listons made 8 errors as Batesville collected 15 hits to 7 for Listons. Umpire Oser.
