Trains go west No 1 daily at 4 07 am with times 4 55 am 2 24 pm 4 27 pm 9 25 pm 9 52 pm. Trains go east No 34 daily includes 4 and No 36 with 2 pm departures. Some trains do not stop marked by cents. Local items note Walsman and Schrader businesses listing farm and shop goods. Several residents from Cincinnati Greensburg Versailles and Indianapolis visit Oldenburg. Post Office Inspector Fletcher and vet Dr Ainsworth are noted on travels. Social visits include Kramers Simonds Etting and families. extended family trips and an excursion are mentioned.
Indianapolis technician Fd Harting visited Batesville Wednesday to adjust the telegraph switchboard. He quickly brought the instrument to first class order, a condition the system had not known before. A Kaiser livery horse narrowly survived a near disaster the same night after owners worked through much of Wednesday night to save it.
A woodcarver from Lawrenceburg formerly of this place arrived Monday morning to take a carving job at the Union factory. After learning about the strike, he decided not to work and returned home.
Mrs. Kate Meyer is ill. Mr. and Mrs. Wenning welcome a boy born July 27. William Nicho returns from Greensburg. Dr. Eamy of Cincinnati treated Mrs. Beck. Geo Severinghaus and family visit from Chicago. H. F. K. Schrader’s son sick. Miss Irene Campbell leaves for Liberty Indiana then returns. Cincinnati relatives visit Mrs. Clausheide. Misses Cora and Anna Heck visit Cincinnati and Dayton and Louisville. Berthast Clair travels to Shelbyville and Indianapolis for summer. Clausheide gifts fine tomatoes. one pound each. Spiegelman and granddaughter of Bridgetown, and Plumb of Cincinnati, visit Batesville and dine with Wennings, Ixrieger, then return Tuesday.
Miss Louisa Meister has been quite ill the last few days. A J Hassmer was in town Tuesday doing a rattling business. Wm Schwier transacted business at the Queen City Wednesday. Harry Sturgs of Clarksburg canvassed for stove polish the first of the week. George Huber of near Adams was at George Rays Friday and contemplates moving to Batesville. Mrs L Annewehr and two children Lenora and Hulda returned from Indianapolis Thursday where they have been attending the Epworth League Convention.
Deutscher Kriegerbund of North America announces excursion rates to Chicago Illinois from August 3 to 16 1894 on a certificate plan. The fare is one and one third the round trip. For details contact local ticket agent CuHas J. Doub.
Last Sunday attendees from Cincinnati included August Kummer and family Emil and Albert Wunesh Louis Schorr and Miss Mayme Gehrhardt Mrs Bush and son August John Menchofer and family John Cook and wife of Adams Church. Refreshments were abundant and all enjoyed the day. A Batesville sighting featured a free mule show by Coal Oil Johnny with nearly a hundred mules and many boys riding. The proprietor rode a vehicle with seven boys aboard wearing summer robes. Crowds gathered to watch the parade and show.
A July 21 social at Mrs D Morgan’s residence drew the Morgan family and guests Miss Minnie Schwartz of Savannah Miss Rose Hillenbrand Miss Ettinger of Bluffton Miss Lena Schrader of Cincinnati Miss Sophia Schrader of Indianapolis Miss Clara Enneking Miss Hettie Schrader Miss Sophia Bos of Morris and numerous Morgan relatives. Souvenirs were given to all guests a glass salve bottle for ladies a silver mounted umbrella clasp for gentlemen. A fine supper followed by ice cream later in the night ended the event on a high social note.
Public auction planned for August 26 18099 on 80 acres near Batesville Indiana with a dwelling house orchard water access and wood land. Sale between 1 and 3 PM with terms to be announced by Peter Arplanalp heirs and Fred Schierenbeck as auctioneers.
A Batesville gathering at Rev Christ Thomson's residence brought about eighty to one hundred attendees of all ages. The St Mark Lutheran church ladies contributed a cash purse and two rockers with a divan as a retirement gift. The event marked Thomson reaching the fortieth milestone, with attendees praising sociology as a aid to Christianity.

A series of brief items from Morris and nearby areas recount bicycle repairs, travel to Lawrenceville, and a barn fire near Morris with substantial loss. The report notes visits by Cincinnati and Indianapolis residents, matches of relatives, a Research Club gathering at Mrs. Morris Wenger, a child’s injury requiring stitches, and community members attending the Osgood fair after trips to Greensburg and Ballstown.
Mrs George Paradise of Denver Colorado visited Cincinnati with Mrs Emightly to see brother Charles Brockman and family. They returned to their homes on Monday morning. NOTICE A girls sewing class will be started teaching sewing embroidery and fancy sticking. Terms are 2 cents a month. Teaching from 4 p m every Saturday. Mrs Jennie Hopapp Batesville Ind.
Cincinnati groups spent Sunday with J. H. Schafer and wife, including Fred Schafer William Schneidhorst and families. Schafer and Schneidhorst returned Monday morning, Mrs. Schneidhorst and children remaining. Other Cincinnati visitors spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs George Dettmer Mrs VonFelde and daughters Tillie Nellie and son Harry, granddaughter Nornice VonFelde, and son in law Christ Sanders and wife plus Miss Sophia Osling. All returned home Sunday except Miss Osling who left Monday morning.
The St Pauls congregation of Cross Roads invites all to a harvest home picnic on Thursday August 17 1899 at St Clairs grove. An abundance of refreshments will be available with a merry go round for children and amusements for all ages. Music will be provided and order guaranteed. Admission free. Don’t fail to attend.
Notices mention Dr. Zuteke being ill and a Sunday fair at the grounds with large attendance. Cincinnati visitors, Osgood fair participation, and several letters to be sent to the Dead Letter Office unless claimed by Aug. 15, 1499. A broken hand, a town hall entertainment, and an excursion train from Cincinnati with events at the fair including a Batesville baseball win and a beer stake race.
