Bought Land and Aviator Baker to Arrive for Flights

Oley A. Hendricks and Oscar John son of Holdrege Nebraska purchased 80 acres near Elk Creek and plan to make it home. Lovell Band will provide music at the fair, praised as a top local musical group. Aviator Baker and his monoplane arrive today by special car on the Billings train to prepare for the flights at the air events.

Billings Sees Ble Riot Monoplane Ahead of Fair

B C Hart reports in Billings that the Ble riot monoplane will fly at the Big Horn County Fair. The machine is praised as splendid and Baker the aviator is viewed as a daredevil. It will be shipped Friday on a special car with the passenger train and unloaded the same day for several days of prep.

The son of Joe Hensley was severely kicked by a horse last Friday near Otto. Drs Harris & Harris performed an operation which relieved the boy and he is now out of danger.

Banking Hours During the County Fair Dates

During the fair from September 26 to 30 Basin State Bank and Big Horn County Bank will open daily from 9 AM to 12 PM. All patrons should govern themselves accordingly. Attorney J F Workman of Lowell was in town this week on legal business.

Sham Battle at the Fair by Company D Wills

The fair board secured Captain Weat’s consent for a sham battle by Company D during the fair. Two thousand rounds of ammunition will be used and the company is expected to muster about sixty men. Daily guard mount and guard duties at the grounds are planned, highlighting the unit that won first prize at Wheatland.

Bought Machine From Billings Trip For Car

J M Schwoob and B C Hart traveled to Billings on Wednesday to obtain a car described as a Billings car. Hart purchased a five passenger BE M F touring car and the pair plan to drive the vehicle to Basin, likely arriving today. Mrs L J Abbey departed yesterday to visit relatives in Sidney Iowa.

Married Men Defeat Singles 11 to 4 in Ball Game

Last Sunday a ball game between married and single folks ended 11 to 4 in favor of the married team. Hime and Drumm starred for the married squad with Crutchlow and Jinks for the singles. H. B. Ridgely had three hits and was praised as a Basin batting standout aiming to improve his average at the fair.

The Fair Daily Announces Special Edition Program

The Republican will issue a daily paper during the fair replacing the usual official program. It will have the same pages and regular issues plus fair features and country news. Advertisers are urged to reserve space as orders arrive from outside towns. the first issue will appear next Tuesday and run all week.

Archbishop Keane Installed as Dubuque Archbishop

Archbishop Keane arrived in Dubuque to assume duties as archbishop of the see of Dubuque. He traveled from Fort Dodge by special train and received a royal welcome from local Catholics. The ceremony, noted for its simplicity, is praised as a landmark in the city’s ecclesiastical history. Mrs C J Faehndrich visiting Mrs A H Simpson joined Presbyterian service program Sunday evening. Her violin selections were warmly received and showcased her notable talent. By invitation of Prof Rossiter she performed again at the high school yesterday before teachers and pupils, to their delight.

Fine Exhibits Ready for State Fair at Douglas

Exhibits prepared for the state fair at Douglas are ready to be shipped and praised as the best from Big Horn county. Wheat and oats are declared the finest seen anywhere and likely to win first prize. Most exhibits were prepared by R. H. Aarens and assistants, reflecting careful work. Full showings of fruits and vegetables accompany the display, expected to bring credit to the county and attract new settlers.

Regular Routine Business At Progress Dinner Meeting

President H. B. Ridgely presided at the progress dinner Wednesday in the absence of Secretary Ahrena. A. W. Coons acted as secretary, with J. G. Schenk reporting on entertainment for newspaper men and noting bills unchanged. J. B. Thompson reviewed the Cody central association meeting, reporting low attendance south of Lovell and near quorum, endorsing the Wyoming Publicity association and approving apportionments for the exhibit car. Emerson urged backing Shell canal plans, touting a sturdy canal, reservoirs and timely payments, countering Chicago critiques. Members defended Shell canal financing, and local supporters defended land under the canal as productive with proper farming. Floral fair prep was praised, with monoplane due today and neighborly urging to spread fair awareness. Treasurer W. W. Collins listed delinquents and fund balances, with dues plan discussed and committee appointed to draft graduated dues. Meeting adjourned to Wednesday, October 4.
