Progress Dinner Plan For Newspaper Men Recalled

Progress dinner minutes show W. H. Collins presiding in Ridgely’s absence. Funds were approved to forward $50 to Frank Gapen for car expenses. Visitors to the exhibit car praised the display of vegetables and fruits. A 1:15 arrival, 4:00 departure schedule, and a natural gas display were arranged with tours to farms and a hog ranch. Community leaders secured $200, $300, and potential extra funds from city and county officials for fairs and exhibits. Tickets for dinner were to be sold by a committee. meeting adjourned after routine business.

Literary Club Meeting Delays Papers and Lectures

The Literary club met with small attendance and deferred H. B. Ridgely's historical paper to next Monday. Dr. Walter Granger, curator of the American Museum of Natural History, and Dr. Sinclair plan to lecture next Thursday, discussing excavations and fossils. The public is invited to attend.

The Thomas brothers move their pool hall this week into the Johnson-Pease Co. building, vacated recently. Max Thomas, the in charge painter, says operations should start early next week perhaps Monday.

First Montana Monoplane Flies with 60 HP Engine

The Baker Aviation Co reports a new 60 horsepower engine and enlarged wing span for a Montana built monoplane. The craft features a seven foot propeller and lighter framework, claiming capability to fly two machines its size and marking the first monoplane built in Montana and flown in Montana or Wyoming. A letter anticipates a large Grounds crowd.

Bound Over in Livestock Killing Case

R M Marquis manager and Foreman Sidebottom of Rockwell Livestock company were arrested on complaint by George Merrill for unlawfully killing livestock. Preliminary hearing in Justice Maret's court last Saturday resulted in waiving the hearing and binding them over to the next term in bonds of 1000 each. The charge allege killing stock belonging to Rocky Mountain Cattle company.

First genuine cyclone hits Cottonwood Creek near Thermopolis

A Wyoming cyclone raced along Cottonwood Creek about thirty miles north of Thermopolis a few days ago, causing extensive damage. The storm toppled trees along a 100 yard wide path, uprooting many and snapping trunks up to three feet in diameter. Some structures were wrecked, and others damaged by falling debris, though a lone tree remained standing in the storm’s core. Thermopolis Independent.

Greek and Greek clash ends in death near Kane

James Baginianas is killed and Steve Brown wounded in a Sunday morning encounter near Kane. Both men were Greek workers for Burlington. Baginianas suffered shotgun and pistol wounds. Brown was shot in the back and has a good chance of recovery. Police reconstruct competing motives. Brown allegedly killed Baginianas to obtain his money. A jury viewed the remains and ruled death by gunshot from Brown. murder charges expected when Brown recovers.

James F. Ewers formerly led Basin school and now works in stone and marble as one of the five active factors in the Great Western Marble Works of Basin. The rapidly growing firm employs many high priced men. Ewers left for home after appointing F. W. Plaff & Co as agents to take and fill tombstone orders.

Car agency expansion in Cody region announced

Dr. C. Dana Carter bought four EM automobiles early this week from J. M. Schwoob, Cody dealer and Park and Big Horn counties agent. Schwoob has opened an agency in Templeton and Foster will manage parts and accessories for Cody Trading Co. in their repair operation.

Bartlett Richards Dies After Operation in Minnesota

Bartlett Richards of Los Angeles, once among Wyoming’s wealthiest stockmen and brother of ex-Governor DeForest Richards, died at Rochester after an operation. He was serving a one year jail term at Hastings Neb for conspiracy to acquire government land via dummy entrymen. Family members including Mrs Potter, Elmer Davis, Deve Harp, and Mr and Mrs Bittenbender travel to Monta Vista Colorado to establish a new home.

City Council Approves Construction Costs and Advertising Aid

The council met with Mayor Booth and most members present. Kate Craig Construction Co. may receive 9950 for about 80 percent of August work. Fred Frisby's bill of 143.85 was tabled. Sidewalks were ordered on multiple lots and a crosswalk from the Rogers House to Mead place. Hotels license proposal was postponed. A Progress association committee sought 200 for town advertising and exhibit car funding, with taxes aiding equitable contributions.

Horse Thief Stolen Herd Sparks Reward Offer

Sixty head of horses were stolen from the Donald McDonald pasture near Diamond prompting the Wyoming Stockgrowers' Association to post a $300 reward for the capture of the thieves. It is the second theft by the same group. earlier a wire fence halted a stampede, but this time no trace of the animals remains.
