1917 Big Horn County Fair Best Ever Program

Big Horn County Fair showcases a full Thursday program with a morning parade and events. Highlights include trick riding, bucking contests, races, a Cossack marriage ceremony, and a street parade led by the Basin band. Evening shows feature motion pictures, vaudeville, and a fair dance.

State horticultural leader visits Basin for fruit show

Frank Julian, president of the state horticultural society, arrived in Basin Tuesday to attend Thursday's fair grounds meeting. He praises the fruit exhibit despite the late season and notes his pivotal role in promoting Wyoming fruit and his own success as a grower.

Farm Display By Young George Swartz Jr Shines at Show

In the horticultural hall a display of farm buildings and a farm yard by thirteen year old George C. Swartz Jr features every house barn and item shown. The boy receives compliments for novelty and quality while an old oak bucket hanging in the well draws remarks from spectators.

Fire at Shell Leaves Home Ashes Yet Man Smiles

Last Monday a fire tore through Billy Emrick’s home while he was away. By evening the house burned to ash leaving only a pile of clothes and household goods. Emrick still smiles in spite of the loss.

Outfitted Traveler Recovers After Basin Visit Fire

He says he has more friends than he knew about and some of them are his size. They provided a complete outfit for his trip to Basin. The fire origin is unknown and the loss is described as quite small.

Chamberlain Addresses Basin Fair Crowd On Farming Attractiveness

A. E. Chamberlain, stock judge at Basin’s fair, urges making farms appealing to youth by starting with calves or piglets and emphasizing profitable, well cared for stock. He praises the Big Horn County Fair as top regional advertising and urges better farming to attract boys and girls. An alcohol linked car crash near The Republican office leads to arrests and planned prosecutions to curb reckless driving.

Yesterday's Program Satisfying Despite Minor Glitches

Afternoon events opened with A E Chamberlain's address followed by sports. Geo Pickett won the half mile dash and Iris Trumbull the ladies quarter mile. Sam Scoville captured the wild horse race while J B Kinzer won the night shirt race. Dwight Brown led the boys fifty yard, and Mayer, Smith, Baird, Winzenreid, Ellison placed in bucking trials. Birdell won the motorcycle race. Joe Kuehn won the auto race. Winzenreid led the fifty yard stake, Mayer won the barrel race, and the 1 mile relay went to Winzenreid.

Largest Single Exhibit At Fair Impresses Greybull Grower

W. F. Unterzuber of Greybull claimed the largest single exhibit of garden and farm products at the fair. He assembled eighty seven varieties in one day after the land had just been cultivated for the second year. He expresses strong satisfaction with the results.

Otto Couple Attends Fair Satisfied With Displays

Mr and Mrs Harve Perkins Jr from the Otto country visited the fair on Wednesday and expressed satisfaction with the displays noting their favorable impressions of the exhibits.
