Government Moves to Stop Coal Mine Strike

Washington reports the government will use all resources to prevent the nationwide coal strike set for Saturday. Attorney General Palmer says calm work will continue and troops may be used to protect workers who stay on the job. Price control and anti profiteering measures will be revived to shield the public.

Local firm lands Cheyenne road contract for Basin to Greybull

Dickman and Johnson of Basin won the seven mile hard surface road contract from the state highway commission in Cheyenne. The $45,957.12 project begins at once and aims to finish by July 1. Johnson, owner of the Commercial hotel, and Dickman form a bidding partnership with extensive contracting experience expected to ensure quality work.

Navy Deserter Arrested and Local Meeting Postponed

From advices received Jack Menon was arrested at Hyattsville and held for further orders after desertion from the navy. The Presbyterian ladies will meet with Mrs T. K. Bishop near Thursday afternoon but the tea and bake sale scheduled for that time has been indefinitely postponed.

Death of Judge Parmelee Shakes Northern Wyoming

Judge Carroll H. Parmelee, longtime Fourth Judicial District jurist, was found dead in his Sheridan office from heart trouble. Born 1861 in Ohio, he came to Wyoming in 1886 and served as Buffalo land office register and state superintendent of public instruction before election as judge in 1904 and 1910. Survived by his widow and three children, he was widely respected in the Big Horn Basin.

Bold Robbers at Cowley Strike Equitable Co

Sheriff Wickwire and County Attorney Little were called to Cowley for a burglary at the Cowley Equitable Co store. The theft occurred Saturday or Sunday night with $400 to $500 in merchandise taken, mostly silk goods. The store was locked when Chas Mann, the manager, arrived Monday morning. locks were picked or entry unseen. A description of the stolen property has been broadcast as efforts to capture the robbers continue.

Mrs J Atherly Hosts Bridge for Mrs Kaldenberg

Mrs J Atherly entertained at her home west of town last Friday for Mrs Rene Kaldenberg of Denver. Guests included Mesdames Jos lin Hartigan Anderson Armeling West Ath erly Bishop Brill Hime Denny Berry Zane Hime Pauley Arnott Coons Sterritt. First honors were won by Mrs Sterritt with Mrs Paley second. Pink and yellow chrysanthemums and car nations decorated. A luncheon followed.

Murphy crowd each get elk on opening trip

Lon Murphy and six others who left last week for South Fork phoned in this week to say each member had his elk and would stay until the deer season opens tomorrow to hunt on the same trip. W T Dickey returned from Casper where he attended a Midwest superintendents meeting.

Elected new directors plan return to luncheons

A Chamber of Commerce meeting elected twelve new directors to serve various terms and approved resuming weekly luncheon meetings. Delegates were chosen for Cheyenne good roads and a high cost of living meeting, with T. K. Bishop to arrange the first luncheon. The group also discussed gas use and municipal economy.

Return of American War Dead Proposed by Bland

Representative Bland of Indiana introduced a bill to appoint a commission to move the bodies of soldiers sailors and Marines who fell in France to the United States for final burial. The measure follows ongoing debates on how best to honor fallen servicemen from the great war.

Big ranch deal closed in Wyoming's Big Horn Basin

John Luman sold 1280 acre Paint Rock ranch and 640 cattle to J A Cline for 90000 dollars. Cline, former Seaman ranch owner, plans to return east then come back to Wyoming in about thirty days to settle affairs. Luman to winter in New Mexico. summer in the Basin with no fixed plans.

Poindexter Resolution Presses DOJ Over Radicals

Bids Opened For Paint Rock Canal Construction

F. C. Emerson state engineer of Cheyenne visited and arranged bid advertisements for a canal project on the Manderson lateral of the Paint Rock canal. Initial work will move about 85 000 cubic yards of dirt between McDermott Gulch and No Name Gulch. The full project includes lands on the big flat starting at the mile post on the Hyattville road.

Judge Metz on Big Game Hunt in the Rockies

Mrs. P. W. Metz reports her husband the judge endured a heavy snow storm during a Rockies hunt. He successfully bagged an elk and will stay until the deer season opens to complete his quota. The Manderson Baptist church ladies plan a social Friday Nov 7 with proceeds aiding a cause and a varied program. F P Miller of Manderson was a town visitor this week.
